LED Screen Circus: A Full LED Stage for Circus Knie

Artixium and Moving Stage, the events subsidiary of Groupe GUILLET, are continuing their exclusive collaboration with Circus Knie. After the interactive Mov’In Screen Floor, the stage now adds a large curved LED backdrop and a diabolo-shaped LED screen, custom-built for the balancing acts.

Floor, backdrop and stage prop now form one continuous digital set, from the ring up to the top of the stage. Thank you to Thibaut, Patrice and Benoît for their commitment to this ambitious project.

An 83 m² Opal LED Floor

The Mov’In Screen Floor interactive floor is made of 332 Opal P3.9 tiles (83 m²), with IP65 protection and front maintenance. It is rated up to 2,000 kg/m² and set up in under 15 minutes on Moving Stage’s mobile structure.

A 106 m² Orion 2 LED Backdrop

The backdrop is made of 226 Orion 2 P3.9 cabinets: 196 cabinets of 1,000 × 500 mm and 30 special cabinets of 500 × 516 mm and 500 × 574 mm, machined to fit the shape of the set. Set at 0°, 3° or 7.5° to one another, they form a curved wall that follows the round shape of the stage.

The screen is split into five zones driven as a single image: two sides, a centre band and two doors, left and right. It displays 5,376 × 1,024 pixels and receives a doubled signal, main and backup, through two NovaStar H2 video processors to reduce the risk of interruption during performances.

A Custom LED Diabolo

In the centre of the ring, the diabolo is an hourglass-shaped P3.9 LED screen, 2.08 m high and 1.78 m in diameter. It is built from 8 custom curved cabinets, 4 upper and 4 lower, and serves as a podium for the balancing acts: the artist performs on top of a moving image.

Each cabinet has two power supplies, and like the backdrop, the diabolo receives a main and a backup signal.

The Circus Knie Stage Project in Detail

An exclusive collaboration. Artixium designs the LED screens, while Moving Stage, the events subsidiary of Groupe GUILLET, develops the structures and integrates everything on the Circus Knie stage.

An 83 m² interactive floor. 332 Opal INDOOR P3.9 tiles form the Mov’In Screen Floor, built to be walked on: loads up to 2,000 kg/m², IP65 protection and front maintenance.

A 106 m² curved backdrop. 226 Orion 2 P3.9 cabinets, including 30 special cabinets, assembled at 0°, 3° and 7.5° to follow the round shape of the stage. Total resolution: 5,376 × 1,024 pixels.

A one-of-a-kind LED diabolo. 8 curved P3.9 cabinets form an hourglass 2.08 m high and 1.78 m in diameter, used as an apparatus by the hand balancers.

A secure installation. Main and backup signal on both the backdrop and the diabolo, and dual power supplies in every diabolo cabinet.

Built for touring. Mounted on a mobile structure, the floor is set up or taken down in under 15 minutes, a decisive advantage for a travelling circus.

Why Choose LED Screens for a Circus Show?

An LED screen turns the set into part of the show. On the floor, artists perform on top of images that can react, change colour or create optical illusions. As a backdrop, the screen switches from one world to another between acts in a matter of seconds.

A circus also brings its own constraints: weight and impacts on the ring, a circular layout, and repeated set-ups on tour. That is why each use calls for the right product: Opal for the floor, Orion 2 for a curved, demountable backdrop, and custom cabinets for special shapes such as the diabolo.
