LED Screen Airport Lyon: A Circular LITHIUM Screen for Terminal 1B

On October 7, 2017, Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport inaugurated its new terminal 1B, in the presence of Gérard Collomb, former mayor of Lyon and then Minister of the Interior. For this occasion, Artixium, in collaboration with Videlio, designed, manufactured, and installed a circular LED screen 8 meters in diameter, equipped with high-brightness Lithium P4 (a range since succeeded by Granite) modules.

This project represented a major technical challenge for our teams, particularly due to the specific curvature of the screen. The terminal’s ceiling, with its fluid architectural lines, lets in abundant natural light, creating a direct constraint on screen readability. To meet this requirement, we developed a custom version of Lithium, offering brightness equivalent to an outdoor LED screen.

The integration also required structural adaptation: with the support pillar being off-center, we adjusted the weight and dimensions of the cabinets to ensure the stability and aesthetics of the assembly.

Six Months of Development

After more than six months of development, followed by controlled manufacturing and installation, Artixium is proud to count Lyon Saint-Exupéry, one of France’s three largest airports, among its prestigious references.

The LED Screen Airport Lyon Project in Detail

The LED screen airport Lyon project accompanied the inauguration of terminal 1B at Lyon Saint-Exupéry on 7 October 2017. In collaboration with Videlio, Artixium designed, manufactured and installed a circular LED screen 8 metres in diameter.

A specific curvature. The circular shape of the screen was a major technical challenge: every cabinet had to follow the curve precisely to deliver a continuous image all around the ring.

Outdoor-level brightness indoors. The terminal’s ceiling lets in abundant natural light. To keep the content readable, Artixium developed a custom version of its Lithium P4 modules offering brightness equivalent to an outdoor LED screen.

A structure adapted to the building. With the support pillar off-centre, the weight and dimensions of the cabinets were adjusted to guarantee the stability and the aesthetics of the whole assembly. The project required more than six months of development.

Why Choose an LED Screen for an Airport Terminal?

An airport terminal is a showcase for the region and for the brands it hosts. A large LED screen creates a striking landmark for travellers, while broadcasting advertising, destination promotion, airport services and institutional messages.

Terminals are bright, open spaces with glass façades and skylights, so indoor screens often need far more brightness than usual. Custom shapes and structures also allow the screen to become part of the architecture instead of a simple panel on a wall, as with the LED screen airport Lyon ring.

The Lithium range has since been succeeded by Granite, and Artixium designs custom LED displays for unique architectural projects. Discover our transport LED displays, contact our team, or visit the Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport website.
